The warm weather is certainly welcome. With spring here and summer just around the corner, the board enters its busy season. Tennis courts and the pool are prepped for opening, the grounds are checked for any landscaping that must be updated or replaced, the clubhouse readied for the busy summer months. This year we are reinstituting photo ids for entrance to the pool. We certainly want all our residents to use both the pool and the clubhouse; both are your facilities, maintained through the assessment you pay every year. However, we have found that non-residents have used both the pool and the clubhouse. We tightened the rental process for the clubhouse last year. This year we want to ensure that the pool is used only by Ledgewood residents and their guests. Nancy Picard and Jim Chimura have worked very hard to get the id process back in place, and their efforts are much appreciated.

We have installed a Koala Care baby changing table in the women’s restroom at the clubhouse in response to resident requests. We always appreciate resident input and realized this was needed.

We anticipate children’s events again this year. Margaret Bosela and her group did a wonderful job putting on several children’s events; she has graciously agreed to handle this again this year. This has always been a wonderful neighborhood with great people and the parties enabled new residents and old to meet their neighbors. The trial regarding the sledding hill property has been postponed until October 5.

Clubhouse |

clubhouse@theledgewoodassociation.com

The summer rental season is beginning. Please remember when reserving the clubhouse for your event that when hosting a party that lasts past 8 pm (pool closing) there must be lifeguards on duty whether or not your guests are swimming. If you are planning a summer party and have, on your rental application, stated the party will end at 8PM, the party MUST end then. Last year we had 8PM listed as the party end time on some applications, but the renter wanted to extend the time until later in the evening. This year, if the application states the party is over by 8PM, you will have to leave at that time. There will be no scrambling to try to address the need for lifeguards to meet a later end time. It is unfair to the guards to ask them to try to accommodate the renter’s (unstated) requirements. The clubhouse manager schedules the guards in advance and we will certainly address your needs when we have been made aware of your party hours. Guard coverage when the pool is open is a safety requirement we have not and will not ignore.

Architectural Review | Karen Kircher

The beauty of Ledgewood is about to burst forth again this spring, so let’s make sure that our gardens and landscaping are ready to show it off! Please remove holiday décor that has been hidden under the mounds of snow and pay close attention to overhanging branches that might impair walking through our development. Our only light source is our lamp posts so please make sure you have a functioning white bulb to make the development safe.

If you are planning to make changes in fencing, or other changes to your home, please call to get an OK unless you are just repairing or replacing the existing structure. Always check with your neighbors if any changes would impact their view or access to their property before you ask the Association for approval, then come to us before you seek city approval or a building permit.

The several condominium associations throughout Ledgewood operate under their own covenants and restrictions, so they must be contacted independently from the Ledgewood Association.

The Architectural review team will be walking through the streets of Ledgewood in mid June to look for uneven sidewalks, hanging branches, abandoned cars in driveways or landscaping in need of major maintenance. We are also looking for outstanding examples of yard care that we can recognize as we walk! Hope to meet you while we walk!

Common Ground | Ronald Bender & Carl Ventura

commongrounds@theledgewoodassociation.com

The Common Ground Committee oversees all matters pertaining to maintenance, repair and improvements of the common ground areas, parking lots, access road to the tennis courts and other facilities of the association. We try and resolve complaints from residents concerning common ground issues and interface with City departments for maintenance of common properties.

Spring clean-up is underway and by now flower beds and common areas re mulched. Shrubs that didn’t make it through the winter will be replaced when weather permits. The City has indicated the replacement of the undersized culvert under Falling Water Road that has caused flooding of the pool is on their 5 year capital improvement project list, but nothing is happening at this time. We have met with the City to discuss the possibility of constructing a flood wall adjacent to the creek both behind the pool and along the driveway to prevent the creek from backing up into the pool area. This will be looked into further. Bids are being taken to crack seal and resurface the asphalt tennis courts. We are also looking into some minor repairs to the turf courts to provide better drainage.

Pool | Nancy Picard

pool@theledgewoodassociation.com

The pool will open Memorial Day weekend, on Saturday, May 23, at noon, weather permitting. Our Swim Team will host two home swim meets, Tuesday, June 9 and Thursday, June 11. The pool will close to residents at 4:00 p.m. on these dates.

I am delighted to introduce our new pool manager, Brittney Jankura. Brittney has more than twelve years of pool experience; she has been a lifeguard, a swim instructor, assistant pool manager, lifeguard instructor, and pool manager. She will be a full time manager at Ledgewood Pool during the summer; during the school year she is a kindergarten teacher for Brunswick City Schools.

Pool Identification - We have a new identification system for the pool. Pictures were taken on April 11 and April 19 at the clubhouse. All residents age 5 and older will need to have their picture taken to use the pool. There will be one more picture taking session on May 9, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the pool lobby. If you do not have a picture in our system, you will need to wait for an employee to be available to take your picture on your first visit to the pool. A family emergency card will also be kept on file at the pool. We purchased an identification system that proved to be cumbersome at best. Thankfully, Ledgewood resident, Danylo Zadony has designed an easy to use computer system that will allow our lifeguards to check in all residents and guests. All households have 30 guest passes to use for the season. Homeowners may purchase 30 additional guest passes for $50.00. Swim Lessons - This year we will be offering swim lessons in a new format. Brittney will be directing these lessons. The swim lesson registration sheet is attached.

Water Aerobics – We will be offering water aerobics classes this summer. More information will be posted on the website as well as at the pool. LIFEGUARDS –Now hiring lifeguards for the 2015 Season. If you are 15 or older and certified in lifeguarding for the professional rescuer and CPR/AED, please contact Brittney Jankura at brittneyjankura@gmail.com.

P.S. – We are looking for the red and white backstroke flags. If you have stored them for the swim team or if you remember seeing them someplace, please bring them down to the pool or the garage. Thank you! The Swim Team needs your help! – If you are the parent of a current Swim Team member, or are family member of a former swimmer, or you are an adult former Swim Team member, or if you just want to help support our team, please join us on Friday, May 29, 2015, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., at the clubhouse for some adult beverages and snacks. The Swim Team at Ledgewood has a fine tradition that we all want to continue for many years. We need an adult booster-type organization to support and encourage our team. Please stop in to offer your support.
