Overall, our neighborhood looks pretty good. The street signs and playground projects were great accomplishments this past season. Currently, we’re in the process of closing down the pool for the winter. It was another successful swim season, in large part because of our cadre of lifeguards. I want to thank Amy Krukemeyer, Makinsie Sheridan and the rest of our lifeguards for a safe and enjoyable summer at the City’s best pool.

I encourage each of you to visit our playground – it’s a great asset for our neighborhood. We need your help to protect our Association’s assets and property. Please contact the Strongsville Police Department if you see anyone mistreating our property.

The most important issue that confronts our neighborhood is property appearance and upkeep. Please look at your home and property – from the perspective of your neighbor. This past summer was terrible for crabgrass. You need to spray for crabgrass as early as possible; before it overtakes your lawn. Bayer’s Advanced™ All-in-One Weed Killer does a good job on crabgrass.

Also, please do not deposit your landscape debris (branches, grass, etc.) on any common property or where it can be seen by your neighbors. This applies to your landscape and tree vendors. If you need to have a tree taken down, make sure they either chip-up the branches or take it off-site. The debris blocks our storm ditches and sewers, and creates a breeding ground for rodents such as skunks.

Please send me an e-mail if you are interested in being part of a bulk contract for concrete replacement. By pooling together several concrete jobs, we should be able to get a better price. president@theledgewoodassociation.com

All is pretty quiet from a financial perspective. We are comfortably under our operating budget for the year and we have a moratorium on unplanned spending until next years assessment rolls in.

Ledgewood Tennis Courts

The following story has been repeated three times this summer. I walk my Setter down through the park each day past the new playground equipment. As she comes around the corner by courts 3 & 4, I hear the phrase “A dog, I hope there are people with her.” Ladies and gentlemen, courts 3 & 4 were not designed to be a king size critter cage. But if you go in there without a key just because the door is ajar, that is what they become. A people trap. Like any good trap, the door does not open from the inside without a key.

Any Ledgewood resident may acquire their own personal key by contacting Dave Csank at the Ledgewood garage (238-6000) and putting down a $5.00 deposit. If you are not a Ledgewood resident and I find you trapped in there, I may have to relocate you to another park at least 25 miles away.

Ledgewood Swimming Pool | George Smith

This was the second year to enjoy our recently updated and upgraded swimming pool and we had another outstanding summer (mother nature notwithstanding). The new pool filtration system project completed in the fall of 2004 by Designor Pools and overseen by Bob Folino gave all swimmers, young, old and in between a venue to enjoy. Hundreds of residents took advantage of the warm summer to enjoy one of Ledgewood’s finest resources…our neighborhood swimming pool.

The swim team led by Makinsie Sheridan and Anna Rady, had an outstanding swim season and finished a highly respectable 6th at the end of the season Champs meet. We introduced swim lessons to residents, their children and grandchildren. Please note that swimming lessons will be available next summer, look for more information in the Spring “Ledger.”

It was great to see so many residents, friends and guests at the pool this summer. We look forward to seeing all of you back next year and bring your neighbors!

Another great year is coming to a close and with it some great memories of the events and parties held at the clubhouse. Thanks to all who made use of our wonderful facility. The schedule for fall/holiday parties is filling up rapidly. Please call Jain Baruth at 216- 401-7871 to reserve or check our website for detailed information. A note to Ledgewood parents: if your child is missing a bicycle, scooter or skateboard . . check with Dave at the maintenance garage. Please claim them at your earliest convenience. Any unclaimed bikes will go to charity.

Architectural Review – Sally Catt

It is hard to believe that fall is fast approaching and there are a whole different set of property responsibilities to address.

The follow-up walkthrough has just been completed. The very good news is that there have been many noticeable improvements taking place in the development for which the residence and neighbors are very grateful.

Several issues still needed addressed before winter:

  1. Light issue turned over to the city as requested; safety issue as well as aesthetic.

  2. Mailbox and post condition. Secure the post or replace it. Paint mailbox if needed. If replacement is necessary, please stay with the wooden post and style that blends with the house.

  3. Encroaching weeds out of control due to lack of attention. This was found to be quite evident, both in flower beds and in the yard area.

  4. Curb area and driveway needing edged.

Backyard Open House

Mark you calendar for a mid July Saturday and Sunday, volunteer only, backyard and open house for Ledgewood residents only. Specific details will follow at a much later date, but now is the time to anticipate such an event.

I have found many of the backyards in the development would match any Home & Garden magazine picture. There are many talented gardeners that might enjoy sharing their efforts one weekend. This would be a wonderful time to capture new ideas and learn bits of gardening information.

The development is full of very talented individuals that would love to share their expertise if asked. If your neighbor’s yard is a thing of beauty and has no weeds and yours does, I am certain, if asked, they would give suggestions because they do not want your weeds in their yard.

If you are undecided what color to paint your house, there are several residents who have a talent for knowing just the perfect color that would enhance your house and street when you go to paint the exterior. Two of the talented residents who agreed to offer input if asked are:
