We are 99% complete on the renovation of the clubhouse. We are tweaking some cosmetic items. Through the efforts of everyone involved, we finished on schedule. The comments we have received from those who have seen it have been VERY favorable. We now have a facility that you can be proud to bring your friends to and to use for just about any type of function. We have established new policies to assist in maintaining the clubhouse condition and as an asset to our residents. To summarize, the rent is free for a private party, $325 for a business function. The deposit is $500.00 for all functions; this will be returned if all is in good order after your function. However, if you hurt it, you will pay to restore it and God help you if you lose the key as we will have all locks rekeyed. The cost will be borne by the person who rented the clubhouse. The person renting the clubhouse must be a Ledgewood resident and must be in attendance at the function.

The preparation of the Omni courts is complete. The hard courts have been resurfaced and the trees have been trimmed back to improve the court surface. The city has let the contract for boring under the recreation area to replace the sewer line schedule to begin May 14th. They have assured us that the road to the courts and the playground will remain open.

I have had a variety of requests for the Board to support various initiatives lately, including the fire station, food banks, etc. Everyone needs to understand the Ledgewood policy on this. This is historical and is based on advice from Association lawyers. The charter of the Board is to conduct the business of the Ledgewood Association. The Board maintains the facilities, property and the exercises fiscal responsibility regarding Ledgewood Association financial matters. We as a board are prohibited from championing any individual causes no matter how popular or worthwhile they may be. The individual Board members are free to support anything they feel strongly about as long as they make it clear that they are acting as individuals and not representing all the residents of Ledgewood. We must also be especially careful with what we publish in the Ledger. Remember, no matter how worthwhile you may think your project is, someone in the 521 households of Ledgewood is going to take exception to it. The Board needs to protect your interests against unnecessary legal entanglements.

Entry Software: Pool safety is a paramount concern for all of us. This year, we will start the season with 13 lifeguards. These individuals have completed all of their necessary lifeguard certifications that are required by the state of Ohio and are ready to provide a safe environment for all to enjoy.

An additional element of safety is making sure that only authorized individuals are allowed to gain entry to the Ledgewood pool. To that end, we have investigated various software programs pertaining to pool access and we are purchasing and installing a system that will simplify pool access and enhance pool safety. In general, the pool software will store a photo image of the resident (similar to the Strongsville Recreation Center). Upon arriving at the pool for the first time this season, bring a photo-id and utility bill. The attending guard will take a picture of you and your family members that live at home. The next time you arrive at the pool, just give the guard your name and they’ll quickly verify your photo image.

Guests should be accompanied to the pool by a resident. If this is not possible, then the guest should provide the guard with the phone number where the resident can be reached. After successful phone verification by the resident, your guests can enter the pool. The pool software will keep track of the number of guests that each resident has allowed entry to the pool. Each dwelling is allotted 30 guest passes per season. Once that allotment is used up, you can purchase an additional 30 passes by sending a $50 check to Ledgewood Association, P. O. Box 360484, Strongsville OH 44136 c/o of Carleen Sundvall, Ledgewood’s Assistant Treasurer. Once Carleen receives the check, she’ll notify the pool staff that you have purchased 30 additional guest passes.

Masters Swimming: Attention serious swimmers, this year, the Southwest Aquatic Team will be renting our pool for practice on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6:00 AM – 9:00 AM. They have graciously agreed to make 1 lane available for Ledgewood swimmers who would like to get in their swim workouts early in the morning. Anyone interested should contact John Rady (440.212.0108). We would like to get an accurate count of who is interested and how frequently you plan to attend. Based on the interest level, we may develop structured group workouts going forward.

What a nice feeling it is to drive through the development of Ledgewood and observe the sense of pride the majority of homeowners take in their individual properties – Thank you very much.

TREE PLANTING:

Phase I is being set in motion to replace common ground trees and landscaping destroyed over several years by age and severe weather conditions. Research dictated the replacement evergreens by blue spruce which are more deer resistant and climatically suited for Ledgewood’s ground conditions. A variety of low growing evergreens were selected for minimal maintenance and conducive climate conditions. The conscious effort to maintain a green environment in the winter to offset the gray days played a vital roll in the selections as well. Phase II will occur in the Fall with a few plantings to enhance phase I. In 2008 the plan is to increase the number of trees and to encourage homeowners to plant. The goal is for Ledgewood to continue to maintain the reputation as a preserved semi-natural wonderland where man and nature live in harmony.

BACK YARD OPEN HOUSE:

Plans continue to be set in motion for a voluntary back yard open house July 14th and 15th (Saturday and Sunday). This is a wonderful opportunity for the many talented gardeners in the development to share and display the beautiful surroundings they have created. This is for two days only and only for the joy of Ledgewood residents. This will be the perfect time to share knowledge and hopefully inspire would be gardeners to become inspired to enhance their own backyards. Details will follow at a later date.

ANNUAL WALK THROUGH:

The annual walk through will be occurring soon. Some of the major areas of concern to be noted: Overall appearance of property, condition of roof, condition of house paint/stain, condition of mailbox and post, condition of sidewalk and driveway, landscape condition (sod, dead trees, weed condition, neatly trimmed), lamp post condition (black, standing straight, operable), no trailers or advertising signs.

CHILDREN PLAY TIME:

Resident Mom’s and Dad’s with young children can take advantage of the weekly play time set at the new playground site to make friends and enjoy having the children interact with one another. This is set to continue throughout the summer every TUESDAY from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. beginning June 12th and every THURSDAY from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. beginning June 14th.

BOWLING:

Ladies interested in bowling this year can attend a meeting at the Clubhouse on August 21st at 1:30 p.m. or call Jain Baruth for details. 216-401-7871.
