Happy Spring! I’d like to update everyone on various Ledgewood projects/issues underway by your Ledgewood Board of Trustees. First, the weather finally broke so the tree stumps near Pearl Road entrance were removed and new blue spruce trees were planted. The City tree planting project was completed on Falling Water. A note of thanks to Jennifer Milbrandt, city arborist will be sent. I look forward to watching the leaves emerge and the trees grow over the coming years.

Second, special thanks to Jim Chmura (maintenance manager) and Tricia Lance (trustee) for their hard work to improve the aesthetics in the clubhouse lobby. The nature stone floor, warm wall tones, and new lighting fixtures blend the lobby with the look of the rest of the clubhouse.

Third, the omni tennis court replacement project is complex due to property ownership issues with the city. The city apparently owns more than just the road to the pump station. According to various documents it appears that ½ the omni court sits on city-owned property. Bob Folino (past board president at time damage occurred), Joanne Rudo (tennis player) and I met with Mayor Perciak, Michael Daymut, and a city engineer in mid-March and discussions are now underway with the city law department to seek a resolution to the entire matter. The tone of the meeting was positive. City administrators have heard our desire for the city to contribute to court replacement costs since the sewer line replacement caused the damage. Additionally, they are aware of Ledgewood’s eagerness to get this taken care of in a timely manner since the court has been out of service the past 2 seasons.

Fourth, we are exploring options to preserve the path between Falling Leaves and the playground.

On a more upbeat note, we are starting an events calendar in the Ledger and on the Ledgewood Association website. Planning is underway for several social events. Volunteers to assist with these events are always appreciated. Also, look for more information about upcoming yoga classes and Swim Team registration.

Lastly, as the weather improves, dogs and their owners are out more. I remind everyone that a multitude of dogs may be using the same property to do their “business”. Animal urine contains salt which causes grass burnout. Please encourage your pet to “go” in their own lawn, be sure to cleanup promptly after your pet if they “go” elsewhere. Alternate your walking path.

Strongsville City code 618.13 addresses this nuisance here: http://www.strongsville.org/content/animal_ordinances.asp. Enjoy the warmer days ahead and contact me as needed.

It looks like spring is just around the corner. Many of you have already started your spring clean up. Please remember to straighten lamp posts and mailboxes that are leaning from the winter.

The City began the second phase of the tree planting initiative. It was originally thought that only half of Falling Water would be planted this spring and the rest would be completed in the fall. The city budget allowed for the complete planting of Falling Water. It looks fantastic. I’m thrilled that so many residents were receptive to having a tree planted on their tree lawn. This is an opportunity to improve our entrances and add value to our community at no cost to Ledgewood. I thank the City of Strongsville for collaborating with Ledgewood and expediting the planting on the main boulevard. I’m very excited to see the trees in full bloom this spring.

Due to the number of phone calls received over the winter regarding lamppost outages the Board felt it was necessary to conduct a neighborhood wide survey of all lamp posts. I know many residents had it on their “to do” list and were prohibited by the weather. Thanks to all for the prompt attention to this matter. If you are experiencing problems with your lamppost please notify the Board.

The Board is planning to conduct the annual Walk Through in mid June. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate over the next two months so residents can get out and take care of maintenance issue and tend to their yards.

I’m looking forward to the warm weather of spring and watching Ledgewood turn green again. Mary Hastings – Pool Liz Hastings, Pool Manager, will be conducting lifeguard interviews on April 20th, April 27th & April 28th. If anyone is interested in a lifeguard position, please contact Liz at 440-241-9203.
