Spring has finally arrived and with it one of the most heavily anticipated projects is underway. The repairs to the OMNI tennis courts have taken place. With a few lingering issues to be resolved, the majority of the work is complete and several tennis players have already begun playing on the new surface. Because the surface uses sand there is some settling that will take place. With the spring rains and additional play, we should see gradual improvement. Some maintenance is required including regular brushing and leaf and debris removal. If you have questions on maintenance, notice any issues or have further concerns regarding the new surface please feel free to contact myself and I will connect you with the tennis committee.

The attorney and mayor’s office are working together to finish up final surveying to ensure the proper easements are included in the land transfer. We are still confident that this is moving in the right direction and will be completed soon. The tennis court fences will be painted as soon as the evening temperatures permit and wind screens will be installed once that is completed. With these final pieces in places we will have one of the greatest assets in our community fully restored.

Several traffic concerns have been raised in regards to Falling Water including blind spots, speeding, and parked vehicles. After discussions with the police department and review of the city and state laws, “No Parking” signs will be installed along Falling Water beginning approximately at the sledding hill and continuing East to approximately 200 feet past Moss Point Road. Care will be taken to make the signs as minimally obtrusive as possible. Please see City Ordinance 452.01(a)

The Strongsville Police Department has also asked me to remind residents of a few solicitation laws. Any door to door “canvasser” or “solicitor” must obtain a license and identification badge from the Chief of Police. They have provided decals which when placed at the entry of a residence explicitly ban solicitors from visiting that home. The decals will be available at the club house during the summer. Mailbox hangers are against city laws. Any circular, sample, or other matter must be left in the hands of an occupant or in a secure place on

the premises. If you have any concerns regarding solicitors please contact the Strongsville Police Department. Please see City Ordinance 806.06 for specific rules for approved solicitors.

Spring has arrived in Ledgewood - which means home maintenance and yard work season is here! We have some lovely landscaping in the neighborhood and the Association appreciates all the effort it takes to keep the grass mowed and the landscaping trimmed and tidy.

From mid-June to the end of June the Association board members will conduct the annual walk through. We’ll check for overgrown bushes and trees as well as weeds, broken light posts and other items. Take a minute or two to review the items below and decide if anything on your property is on the list and should be attended to. Your attention to your home and yard affects not only your property, but also that of your neighbors. When going through the list you will want to keep in mind the view from your backyard neighbors. Neglecting your property is also a violation of the Association’s Covenants and Restrictions and a City of Strongsville ordinance. You will be notified by letter of any violations.

  • Are trees or shrubs encroaching on the sidewalk? In other words, can you walk past without tripping or having your face scratched from stray branches?

  • Is the concrete walk tilted or sunken more than 1 inch?

  • Is the lamppost rusted off or broken? It must have a black post and the standard Ledgewood globe. If you are in need of a globe check in with Jim at the maintenance garage. Be sure the vegetation does not obscure the light. This is a safety issue for neighbors walking by.

  • Mailbox condition. Most of the original “birdhouse” types have rotted away and been replaced by a variety of styles. If you have to replace yours, please stay with the wooden post and a style that blends with the house. The plastic, molded types are not very “natural”.

  • Are there dead trees and shrubs in the yard that need removal or trimming?

  • Are retaining walls in good condition?

  • Is the lawn in reasonable condition? Not only are weeds an eyesore but they tend to migrate onto neighboring properties.

  • Is there clutter in the yard or beside your home? The side of your house is not an open-air storage area for ladders, yard furniture and general clutter.

  • Are fences in good condition and painted? Are screens in good repair?

  • Are the gutters in good condition, free of sticks, leaves and baby plants?

  • Are the roof tiles in good, moss and plant free condition?

  • Could the house or any fencing stand a new coat of paint or stain?

  • And last but not least, the catchall “Are there any other eyesores?”

Again, we wish to thank all those homeowners who continue to make us proud to live in Ledgewood.

Pool | Bradford Psenicka

pool@theledgewoodassociation.com

The pool will be opening soon, so it's a good time for a quick reminder of our rules and procedures:

  • ID's: This year, as in the past, we will be updating the pictures on the computer. Every resident needs to have a photo in the computer before they are allowed to use the pool. If you are new to the development please bring proof of residency with you, so that we may update our files. If your children come to the pool with a nanny or babysitter, the nanny or babysitter will not require a guest pass if their primary purpose is to supervise the children during the absence of a parent/resident.

  • Guest Passes and Guest Admittance Procedures: Thirty free guest passes will be issued to each property owner. An additional set of thirty passes will be available from the Pool Manager or the guard staff for $50. Guest passes will remain at the pool and be maintained by the staff. Ledgewood residents should accompany their guest to the front desk and provide proof that the resident is aware they are using their guest pass (e.g. written authorization with a phone number). Before entry, the pool staff will contact the resident to verify authorization. Unaccompanied guests will not be permitted to enter the pool without the resident’s verbal permission. Unauthorized guests create a major security concern for our kids at the pool. Thank you for your cooperation.

  • Staffing: Returning lifeguards and persons interested in being lifeguards for the upcoming season should forward their resumes to pool manager, Liz Hastings (lhast@msn.com) or myself (bradfordpsenicka@ledgewoodassociation.com).

Bill Spetch | Clubhouse & Recreation

clubhouse@theledgewoodassociation.com

I’d like to thank Jain Baruth for her efforts to schedule the clubhouse. Please contact her directly at 440-238-3099 to discuss the reservation process and clubhouse availability. Should you have any questions or suggestions on the clubhouse, please contact me at: clubhouse@theledgewoodassociation.com

The on-line calendar now includes tentative reservations; these will be noted as “reserved party” but lack a reservation number. This should help everyone plan their events at the clubhouse. Deposits, and signed rental application and agreement are required before a reservation is final.

The clubhouse continues to be used for a number of events.

  • Please consider joining the others for Yoga Class, held every Saturday at 8:30am for about an hour. The cost is minimal (about $5/class) and it’s great for the mind, heart and soul. Besides, you get to meet new folks while twisting your bodies into pretzels!

  • Bridge Club meets the last Friday of the month (May 28th), and then will be taking a break for the summer. They will start again in September.

  • Please refer to the Ledgewood online calendar or see below for this summer’s swim team events. Even if you don’t have kids (or grandkids) on the team, come on down and support the team! Home meets are Thursday, June 10th and Tuesday, June 29th.

  • Ladies Tuesday Morning Bowling League needs new members. The organizational meeting will be August 17 @ 1:00. Contact Jain Baruth with questions.

Have a great summer and see you at the Wine & Cheese Party!

Annual Swim Team Food Drive

Ledgewood residents and the Ledgewood Swim Team are coordinating the third annual, neighborhood food drive for Saturday, June 26th. We are collecting non-perishable food items to be donated to the Strongsville Emergency Food Bank and the SCAN Hunger Center Pantry that services Strongsville and five other local communities. We will also be collecting items at the two home swim meets on June 10th and 29th.

We have been very successful for the past two years in our attempts to help with the extra summer demand for food when children are not receiving meals at school. Both food banks have been extremely grateful for your contributions.

If you want to donate but are unable to drop food off at the various collection sites on June 26th or at either home swim meet, please phone the Coniam’s at (440)572-4808 to arrange a pick up at your convenience.
