Messages from the President | Dave Minich

This has been a long hard winter. Your Ledgewood Board has been continuing to work for you. As spring approaches and we are getting outside for the first time, please look around to see if there are needed areas of repair in the neighborhood. We have two vacancies that need to be filled. Jane Baruth has resigned as the Club House Rental Manager. If you are interested in applying for this position please contact Marcia Folino at 440-238-4251 president@theledgewoodassociation.com. We also need a helper for Jim Chmura, our Maintenance and Operations Manager. This position is for twenty hours per week. We are looking for someone preferably 18 years or older. Please contact Jim 216-410-3069 - president@theledgewoodassociation.com These two positions are extremely important to the efficient operation of the association.

The pool renovation is on schedule, and we are looking to have it opened on May 25. The concrete work has been completed, the landscaping is underway, and the pool liner people are scheduled to be in sometime within the next two weeks. The pool heater has been replaced and will be tested to make sure it works as intended.

An area that has been a concern for residents is the area by the tennis courts. If you are using the area and notice anything out of the ordinary (i.e. underage drinking or drugs) please contact the Strongsville police. They have been very good about responding to our concerns. This entire area has been posted, and as a result, it is patrolled at night. If you feel that the area is being used by non-residents please contact a board member to look into the situation. Please try to keep these areas clean so that we all can enjoy them.

A reminder about signs. We only allow signs advertising the Ledgewood/Swim team functions. Signs may be put up within 30 days of the event. In 2010, the city passed an ordinance banning a lot of local signage but they do not enforce it for local swim teams unless someone complains. A compromise was negotiated with the city, and we can post our signs on the exit side of the islands at each entrance on Falling Water.

The Ledgewood Association Restrictions and Covenants are for the benefit of everyone. Review them if you have questions or ask a board member. ledgewoodassociation.com Your Board is here to help you.

Pool | Debbie Harler

We are less than a month from Memorial Day and the opening of the Ledgewood pool. We are hoping the summer is a happier warmer time than the winter! The big pool renovation project is well underway. The concrete deck is done and now our deck slopes away from the water in compliance with the Health Code. By the time you read this, we should have the new pool liner and landscaping almost done. We plan to open on schedule for the Memorial Weekend on Saturday, May 25.

Jim Chmura, among his many duties maintaining our development, plays a major role in the startup of the pool. He will be starting the boilers, making repairs and replacing broken or worn parts of the pool.

This year we have a new pool Manager. Rob Ellis is a Parma resident who graduated in 2010 from Bowling Green State University with a degree in Criminal Justice. Rob has been a lifeguard for the past 10 years and has been a supervisor at many pools. Currently he is working at the Strongsville Rec Center as a Head Guard. In April, he was busy interviewing lifeguards for us for this summer and he is very excited to be involved with the pool and meet the wonderful residents we have!

We will offer swim lessons again this year! For private or group lessons please contact Debbie Harler at bgsusmile@hotmail.com. Please keep in mind this is much different than the Ledgepark Swim Team. Swim lessons are for any resident of any age (yes, adults still can and should learn to swim!) who would like to learn how to swim, or who would like to improve on their skills.

On behalf of the Ledgewood Trustees, I would like to wish all residents a warm and sunny Summer!

Clubhouse | Marcie Folino

clubhouse@theledgewoodassociation.com

The clubhouse already has many weekend dates reserved for the summer months. We’re glad so many residents want to use it, but because dates are filling quickly, suggest you check clubhouse availability on the Ledgewood website (www.ledgewoodassociation.com) for still available dates if you are planning an event. The link to the clubhouse schedule is on the website home page under the Ledgewood Clubhouse heading. Once you have found an available date that works for your event. Contact Jain Baruth (216) 401-7871) to schedule that date. Please remember that during the summer swim season there are guard fees after 8 pm and those fees are payable with the application.

Architectural Review | Laura McLaughlin and Karen Kircher

architectural@theledgewoodassociation.com

Welcome to all of the new residents who have moved into Ledgewood this year. Spring is finally here and this is the time to spruce up our yards after a long winter. Remember to make 4ft. bundles of your branches for regular collection on Tuesdays. We will be doing a walk through during the summer to make sure that everyone is maintaining the beauty of our development. This Board is in place to preserve the unique look of our development that sets us apart from other areas in our community.

Review Process: If you are interested in installing or replacing a fence, wall, deck, or addition you must submit plans and specifications showing the nature, kind, shape, height, materials and location of your project to the Board PRIOR to construction. Most of these may require a city building permit which should be applied for after Board Review. Remember, the Board retains the right to have any exterior structure removed that has been installed without approval. Thank You to those who have called and received approval for upgrades and replacements so far this spring.

Signs: Ledgewood Association Laws and Covenants do not permit signs of any kind other than a realty sign; you will be asked to remove any others. The city allows us to post special events signs at the entrances and the clubhouse tree lawn 30 days in advance of the event.

Lampposts: Working lampposts are not only a City Ordinance, but they provide the only source of light in most of the development to make walking and running safe. Please maintain a functioning lamppost and avoid letters from the city. If you receive a letter, replace the bulb within 30 days to avoid any further action. If you need minor repairs or a light bulb change you can contact our Maintenance Operations Manager Jim Chmura, and for a fee Mr. Chmura will attempt your repair/replacement. He can be reached at 440.238.6000.

We look forward to working with you in the next year. Please feel free to contact either of us while we work together to keep Ledgewood a warm, inviting, and safe place to live.

2014 Neighborhood food drive

Save the date! On Saturday, June 21st, Ledgewood residents and the Ledgewood Swim Team are coordinating the seventh annual neighborhood food drive. Again, we are collecting non perishable food items to be donated to the Strongsville Emergency Food Bank and the SCAN Hunger Center Pantry that services Strongsville and five other local communities.

Together, let’s continue to help bridge the gap for the summer demand for food when children are not receiving meals at school. We have been very successful in our efforts these past six years because you have been so generous. The two food banks are extremely grateful for your food and monetary contributions. If you want to donate, but are unable to drop food off at the various collection sites on June 21st, please phone the Coniam’s at (440) 572-4808 to arrange a pick up at your convenience. More detailed information will be contained in flyers that will be distributed in June.
